Michael is a long-distance runner and after completing his 5th Athens Classic Marathon, his next goal is to participate in some of the most famous ones abroad.
Geographically Speaking
Greece, known in ancient times as Hellas, is in southeastern Europe. There are over 10 million people living in Greece and the country is divided into 9 geographic regions: Macedonia, Thessaly, Epirus, Crete, Thrace, Central Greece, Peloponnese, Ionian Islands and the Aegean Islands. The geography of Greece is dominated by a mountainous, peninsular mainland. The Greek coastline is listed as the 11th longest in the world.
High Quality of Life
The modern Greek state came about following independence from the Ottoman Empire during the 1830s. Today, Greece is a highly developed and democratic country. The quality of life and economic conditions are high. Greece is also one of the founding members of United Nations.
Islands Galore
Greece consists of several chains of islands…. altogether, more than 2000 islands! That’s a lot of islands, but only 170 of them are populated, and many of these are frequented by tourists.
Ideal Climate
Greece enjoys a Mediterranean climate that offers wet winters and hot and dry summers. The entire country has more than 250 days of sun on average. That’s more than 3,000 sunny hours per year. Some islands may see around 300 days of sun per year!
